7 Reasons Why I Regret Staying Up To Watch WrestleMania 32

1. Vince McMahon's Main Event

The main event of the show was the official crowning of what has been dubbed the 'Roman Empire', as Roman Reigns defeated Triple H to win back the WWE World Heavyweight Championship that he had lost to The Game at the Royal Rumble. The crowd reacted as expected. The biggest event of the year ended with a match featuring two men nobody wanted to get behind.

Of all the professional wrestling subjects written about on the interwebs in the modern age, the forced elevation of Roman Reigns is one of the most frequently discussed. I have nothing new to say on it, other than to further put weight behind the ridiculousness of a professional wrestling promotion showing such little regard for their audience.

From a purely selfish point of view (and this article is entirely written from that particularly miserly point), this was an immensely depressing way to end such an arduous slog. The crowning of Reigns was so inevitable that a swerve seemed like the only way out of the situation. It's strange that WWE will avoid the obvious story at every cost, unless it is the story they want to tell.

After six plus hours of WrestleMania, seeing Roman Reigns spear Triple H and pick up the victory was the most underwhelming way to end. Sure, it is easy to crow from afar and ask why one would stay up if they were so disappointed. Well, professional wrestling (and WWE in particular) is a unique world where we continue to watch because we want it to be good again, because we know it can be.

When it comes to staying up all night for WrestleMania however, the camel is unfazed but this straw may have broken this fan's back.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
