7 Reasons Why WWE Money In The Bank 2011 Won't Be Topped

2. CM Punk's WWE Title Win Over John Cena Was An All-Time Great Match

When John Cena's WWE Title defense against CM Punk was announced we really didn't know if it was going to be Punk's last night in WWE or if he was going to stick around. Punk's contract was set to expire. That was real when he did the infamous Vegas "shoot" promo on Raw in June about a month before this. We assumed he'd stick around, but we didn't know for sure. This match had the kind of big match feel that you don't see too often in WWE. The video promos for it started with 50 minutes left in the show. That meant they were going to get a lot of time. It also meant that there would be special moments like CM Punk's entrance, which is one of the loudest sustained pops in WWE history. It was a hometown guy in his home city entering the biggest match of his career. The story was that at midnight that night, Punk was leaving WWE because he didn't sign a contract. He actually did sign in reality. We just didn't know it yet. As for the match, it's one of the best professional wrestling matches in WWE history. If they got 15 minutes maybe it wouldn't have been, but as they put their bodies on the line for 35 minutes it just kept getting better and better. They didn't use weapons or have a stipulation. It was just a competitive babyface vs. babyface matchup although Cena was booed heavily. It's a famous match, so you know the story. Both guys kicked out of everything. They didn't get tired at all. They just kept on going. At one point towards the end, Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment and was shocked that Punk kicked out of it. When Punk hit the Go To Sleep soon after, Cena bounced outside the ring so Punk couldn't capitalize on it. Great drama. The conclusion of the match saw Vince McMahon and his henchman John Laurinaitis walk down to ringside. McMahon called for the bell when Cena had Punk in the STF, but instead Cena decked Laurinaitis with a punch and told McMahon he wasn't going to win that way. When Cena went back into the ring, Punk hit another GTS and he pinned Cena to become the new WWE Champion. It wasn't a perfectly clean ending, but it's not like it was cheap either. If Punk won the WWE Title against anybody other than John Cena it wouldn't have felt as important. That's why this was perfect. Cena was absolutely the right guy to be involved in this match with Punk. Cena represents the best in WWE. He's the one that fans know as the "the man" in the company whether they like him or not. Everything clicked on this night. That wasn't the end of it, though. The post match theatrics were incredible too.
