Undertaker, Jeff Hardy

One of JR's most underrated qualities as an announcer has always been his ability to make situations seem grander or put fledgling stars over. In 2002, Jeff Hardy was clawing his way up the ladder. Rather fitting given the match he'd have with The Undertaker on the 1 July episode of Raw.

A star-making epic for sure, the match elevated Jeff to new heights as a performer. 'Taker deserves most of the credit for that, and yet there was something magical about JR's announcing. As Hardy tried desperately to become Undisputed Champion against all the odds, Ross was in his element and screamed, "Climb the ladder, kid. Make yourself famous".

Not only did this tie in with The Undertaker's run of trying to put young stars in their place (Maven, RVD etc), it also sold the passion of the moment with gusto. Ross stole the show with his excitable commentary performance, and he did it all whilst effortlessly putting the talent over.
