7 Stars Who Became Too Big For WWE

1. The Rock

The most successful wrestler ever that left the business and did something else is The Rock. There's no question about it. It's really not even close either. When The Rock started doing movies in 2001 it was obvious that he was going to have crossover appeal. He stopped competing regularly in WWE in 2003 although he did wrestle in 2004 at WrestleMania 20. It took him seven years to come back for his stints from 2011 to 2013 although it was far from a full time role. He has made a name for himself as one of the most successful movie actors alive. In 2013 his films grossed over $1 billion and he was the top box office draw as well. He's a guy that is always working on something whether it's movies, developing reality TV series or promoting all of his endeavors. When he's not doing that stuff you might see him tweeting about working out at 4am just to show everybody that he's a success because of the work ethic he has. The Rock left WWE because he didn't need it anymore. While he will always talk about how grateful he was for the opportunity to perform for WWE fans from 1996 to 2004, he also bolted as soon as he possibly could. Maybe he could have stayed in WWE to feud with the current crop of stars, but it was the right thing for him to get out of there. Some fans may hate him for leaving. Others understand why he did it and that's because it made sense. He's unlikely to ever return as a full timer, but he's still in great shape at 42 years old and if he wants to come back he will. That's the most important point. When The Rock wants to come back to WWE, he does. The door is always open. WWE knows that they can use his star power. If he doesn't, there's not much WWE can do about it. That's a sign that he's definitely become too big for WWE.
