7 Strangest WWE Fandom Trends From The Internet
2. No Business Like Botch Business
Before the Internet, if fans wanted to see their favorite botched moves or flubbed promos they'd have to have caught it themselves or had a lucky friend video tape it. When it came to getting foreign and indie botch footage, some viewers had even fewer options.
Today, we are lucky that there's a small army of fans and analysts who actually spend all of their time trying to find botches, despite loving wrestling. Chief among the botch-fans is Maffew Gregg creator of Botchamania. More than a mash-up of dopes missing moon-splashes, Botchamania is like a cultural artefact, a historical record, a comedy series and lover letter to sports entertainment.
Each of the over 300 videos contains the titular botches, plus a lot of questionable story lines, GoldenEye references and Simpsons gags, all set to a classic video game soundtrack. Dolph Ziggler even gave a Botchamania shout-out on Raw and aside from a few video take-downs, WWE legal hasn’t hassled him yet. “I’m sure they’re more focused on pirated and people uploading whole shows than me.”
When asked about the popularity of the video's many cultural references, 28 year old Maffew said, “It’s comforting seeing people appreciate the same silly things I do. Never expected it.”
It's a strange way to love, but it's still a beautiful thing to watch.
