7. Dustin Rhodes Made His PPV Debut And Left WWE Soon After
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xylzi_dusty-dustin-rhodes-vs-dibiase-virg_sport It's amazing to be writing about this show from 24 years ago knowing that a guy had his first PPV match on it and he's still going strong in WWE today. Dustin Rhodes (better known as Goldust) teamed up with his dad against Ted Dibiase and Virgil at the 1991 Royal Rumble. Dustin was only 21 years old at the time. Dusty Rhodes was booked poorly in WWE. He was forced to wear polka dots and was not presented as a major star that was one of the best wrestlers in the world when he was dominating the NWA with Ric Flair. They paired him up with Sapphire the previous year, which produced a lot of bad moments. It was as if they only employed him to spite the NWA. Why not use him properly as a guy that could headline shows if given the chance? Because WWE is weird that way. Dustin started in WWE in late 1990 and then joined his dad in this tag match. It was an average tag match that also saw Dibiase criticize his partner Virgil openly throughout the match. Despite their issues, Dibiase managed to roll up Dusty to win the match. As the story goes, Dusty ended up quitting WWE almost immediately after the match. He took Dustin with him as they went to WCW. Dustin made his WWE return in 1995 as Goldust while Dusty eventually found his way back too.
