7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1991

6. Virgil's Face Turn Against Dibiase Was A Big Deal

Virgil worked for the evil "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase in 1987 and was always by his side. He would do various tasks for him, take beatings for him and have matches once in a while too. Eventually the relationship started to sour, so it appeared as though a split was coming. Following their tag match win over Dusty & Dustin Rhodes, Dibiase ordered Virgil to get the Million Dollar Title for him. Virgil dropped the title at Dibiase's feet. After Dibiase berated him verbally, Virgil grabbed the title and nailed Dibiase in the head with it. The crowd loved it. It was a great angle that the fans believed in because Dibiase was such a great heel that knew how to upset the fans. Roddy Piper also got involved in the feud as something of a coach for Virgil to try to teach him to be more aggressive. It's smart to use a veteran like Piper for an angle like that. Virgil and Dibiase had several matches throughout 1991 including wins by Virgil at WrestleMania 7 (by countout) and SummerSlam as well. It's not farfetched to say it was one of the best babyface turns ever. People bought into it very well.
