6. Lex Luger Debuted As The Narcissist And Was A Major Flop
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5oim5_royal-rumble-1993_sport The signing of Lex Luger was a big move by WWE. He was originally brought in for the World Bodybuilding Federation that ended up being a flop, so he ended up debuting at the Royal Rumble after a lot of hype by Bobby Heenan. It was a very cheesy gimmick for Luger because instead of calling him by his name that people knew from NWA/WCW, he was billed as "The Narcissist." A narcissist is defined as "a person who is overly self-involved, and often vain and selfish." In other words, he's a cocky guy. Luger posed in front of a bunch of mirrors. He didn't do anything worthwhile except flexing his muscles in front of the mirrors. The crowd was dead for all of it. Heenan was yelling on the microphone: "You have a reason to love yourself! Feast your eyes on that man!" This was so bad. No wonder Heenan left later that year. The gimmick didn't last too long for him. Six months later he dropped the gimmick and became an All-American hero that was pushed as a main eventer. That didn't really work that well either, but at least it was better than The Narcissist.
