7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1993

3. The First Time Where "Winner Gets WWE Title Match At WrestleMania" Was In Play

The Royal Rumble match has become one of the most important matches in World Wrestling Entertainment. That's because WWE sweetened the prize for the winner in 1993 when they announced that the winner of the Rumble match would get a WWE Title shot at WrestleMania two months later. As I have covered during the other Royal Rumble recaps, this wasn't the first year where the winner got a WWE Title match at a WrestleMania. It also happened in 1990 when Hulk Hogan won the Rumble and got a WWE Title match against Randy Savage at WrestleMania 5. In that instance it wasn't officially announced that the Rumble winner would get the title shot. It was more because Hogan had the storyline to go after Savage. It was a smart move for WWE to reward the Rumble winner because it makes the match seem more important in the eyes of the fans. Instead of just another match, it was a huge prize. Even though WWE had a very weak roster at the time of the match, it was still a big deal to know that somebody was headlining WrestleMania because of the Rumble win.
