7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1994

2. Diesel Made His Presence Known With A Dominating Performance

The cool thing about the Rumble match is that it's a great chance to make somebody look like a huge star. All they had to do was either last a really long time in the match or go on a roll eliminating a bunch of people during the match. That's what they did with Diesel during the Rumble match. At the time he was still fairly new, but due to his size it was easy to believe in him as a physical force. Diesel entered the match at #7 with four guys in the ring. He dumped Bart Gunn out of the ring and then Scott Steiner. Diesel also tossed Owen Hart out rather easily. Diesel cleared the ring by eliminating Kwang with a clothesline. Remember Kwang? It was Savio Vega in a mask. He was easy to forget. Bob Backlund showed some fire, but Diesel was able to get rid of him rather easily too. Diesel was all alone in the ring looking a dominant as anybody has ever looked in the Rumble match. Billy Gunn (with a bad mustache) was next up and he was eliminated after 14 seconds. Virgil was the 10th man in the match. He was eliminated after a forearm shot following 32 seconds of action. Following those seven eliminations, a big fan favorite Randy Savage was next and that stopped the flurry by Diesel. It took four wrestlers to eliminate Diesel in the match, but it was an impressive showing by Diesel in his first Royal Rumble. This was one of the best examples of WWE using the Rumble match to elevate somebody. Later that year, Diesel carried his momentum from the Rumble match and became the WWE Champion.
