7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1994

1. The Tie Rumble Finish Was Unique

This was the only Royal Rumble that was booked to have a tie for a finish. In 2005, there was also a tie for a finish although that was a mistake because Batista wasn't able to prevent himself from being eliminated. It was a unique booking decision that is probably not going to happen again. The final four men in the match were Bret Hart, Lex Luger, Fatu and Shawn Michaels. The main story of the match was Bret's ability to work through the left knee injury and keep fighting. As mentioned earlier, nobody was better than Bret in terms of selling an injury. It was easy to have sympathy for him when he did such a good job of making things look believable. They did a great spot where Bret eliminated Fatu at the same time that Luger eliminated Michaels. With the crowd going wild, Bret and Lex battled in the center of the ring. It wasn't a long battle because within about ten seconds they went tumbling over the ropes and they both hit the floor around the same time. Bret pushed into Luger, who went backwards over the top rope. None of the refs were on that side of the ring at the time, so there was some doubt about who won the match. http://youtu.be/MZTm75yOtsk At first it was Lex Luger's music that played, so we thought he was the winner. Then referee Earl Hebner told announcer Howard Finkel that Bret Hart was the winner. It was a chaotic situation as WWE President Jack Tunney walked out to try to settle things. It was declared a draw. Replays showed that it was really close although none of the replays were good because they didn't really show their feet. People didn't really like the finish because we were so used to having one winner for this match. All of it actually led to some good booking at WrestleMania 10 with Bret and Luger each getting title shots while Bret also had to face his brother Owen, who he lost to. Bret ended up becoming WWE Champion while Luger never became "the man" in WWE. It was a good Rumble match that was highlighted by Diesel's dominance and an ending that left everybody wondering what was up next.
