7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1995
5. Bam Bam Bigelow's Shove On Lawrence Taylor Was A Smart Move
Bam Bam Bigelow lost the Tag Team Title match with Tatanaka. After Bam Bam got knocked off the ropes, he was pinned by the 1-2-3 Kid. That meant that Kid and Bob Holly were the new Tag Team Champions. It was a very good match. Following the loss, Bigelow's partner Tatanka and his manager Ted Dibiase left ringside, so Bigelow was left alone in the ring. Former NFL legend Lawrence Taylor was sitting at ringside for the show. He was a retired linebacker that was one of the best defensive players ever. He retired in 1993 at the age of 35, so he was still great shape and very relevant as a retired NFL star in early 1995. Bigelow was shown at ringside looking all upset about the loss. He made eye contact with Taylor, who was sitting at ringside. Taylor smiled at him. Bigelow trash talked while Taylor stood up from his chair and wanted to shake his hand. Bigelow responded by shoving Taylor, who went down. He quickly got back to his feet while Bigelow walked away. http://youtu.be/jICDqFVOMtE We didn't know it at the time, but that was the start of the build for a match that would see Taylor headline WrestleMania 11 against Bigelow. They played the whole thing up like it was some real incident instead of just a wrestling angle. It was a brilliant move by WWE because they got a lot of mainstream press since Taylor was such a big star. A lot of people were talking about it the next day. It's exactly what WWE wanted.
