7 Things We Learned From CM Punk's UFC Debut Loss

3. Punk Vs. Gall Was An Embarassment For Everyone But Gall

Here's one thing we learned: Punk vs. Gall wasn't just a bad fight. It wasn't just an embarrassment for CM Punk as an athlete. It was an embarrassment for everyone involved - except Mickey Gall.

For Duke Roufus and his team - too much hyperbole was used about the respect Punk had earned, his heavy hands in training, and so on. It's clear in hindsight that any team taking on Punk should have insisted that he take some amateur bouts first - but clearly, that wasn't part of the deal.

For the UFC? A company that has spent so much time trying to be a legit sport, investing in a company uniform, rankings (that admittedly they don't always stick to), and that seeks coverage on mainstream news outlets? Well, the Punk fight was a step backwards, to the freakshows of yesteryear.

Punk? Well, he tried, but it was still embarrassing, especially when he tried to play the tough guy role and refuse to shake hands at the late weigh-in Friday.

The only person who came off well was Gall - a young hungry kid who made the most of his fifteen minutes, and who might just have a decent UFC career ahead of him now that he's 2-0 in the organization.
