7 Things We Learned From CM Punk's UFC Debut Loss

1. Punk Does Deserve Credit

Here's the positive from this fight:

Punk did it. He lived his dream. He fought in the UFC.

That's more than most of us will ever do. Plenty of fighters have gone winless in the UFC. Sure most of them had wins elsewhere (and maybe Punk should consider that option), but so what? Punk proved the naysayers wrong, the ones who said he would never fight. He proved he could get there, and at least defend - for a while - a choke.

His presence probably helped the buyrate for the card, put a little cash in the pockets of other fighters as a result, and drew more eyeballs to the sport of MMA.

For all that, Punk deserves some credit. He deserves credit for standing firm and giving it his best shot.

At least he can live without regrets. There's no shame in losing if you gave it your all, and there's no doubt Punk did.
