7 Things We Learned From The Evolution Of CM Punk Final Episode
5. Wrestling Is The Butt Of The Joke
If you recall, an earlier episode in the series featured Punk's teammate Ben Askren breaking out a Stone Cold Stunner on him during a light-hearted training session.
Well, wrestling remains the butt of the joke in this final episode of The Evolution of Punk. That's not to say that the documentary is intentionally poking fun at the profession, but rather that those in the MMA game really can't seem to take it seriously.
During a training session with Mickey Gall (it feels as if half the episode is focused on him, not Punk), his teammates prepare a couple of counter attacks for him in the form of chokeslam and a Sharpshooter. The latter comes with instructions that you need to "look angry and nod your head" while applying the hold.
It's silly, and elicits a laugh, but it also gives you a little background into the mindset of all those involved here - both on Punk's team, and his opponent's. In short, pro wrestling is seen as a joke.
