7 Things WWE Can Learn From ALL IN

4. Classic Wrestling Cheese

ALL IN

Cody vs. Nick Aldis was a throwback to the '80s, feeling like something ripped straight from an old Starrcade or WrestleMania card, and not just in terms of style.

This was pure pageantry. Cody came out with his Nightmare Family fight team (and his dog, Pharoah, who was more over than 90% of the roster), and Aldis got a huge entrance too. It was built up with emotional video packages that emphasised the importance of Cody going after his dad's old NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title, and ALL IN even brought out the old OVW announcer that called Cody's very first wrestling match. Then, when the bell rang, the bout played out like a deliberately dramatic pantomime, with boatloads of smoke and mirrors prior to Cody's immensely gratifying victory.

WWE never deliver this kind of charming cheese anymore, opting inside for a heartless soap opera approach. Cody's earned triumph shows that this is missed opportunity. It shouldn't be the basis of WWE's entire product in 2018, but they'd stand to benefit from this approach rather than forcing "historic" moments, as they're prone to doing these days.
