7 Things WWE Got Right At NXT TakeOver: San Antonio

4. The Reign Of Pain Begins

The fairytale is over. Much like American Alpha, #DIY lost the NXT Tag Team Championships just one TakeOver removed from winning them, as the size and power of Authors of Pain proved too much for Gargano and Ciampa. The match was as good as it could be, the inexperience of Akam and Rezar masked by the energy and ability of Gargano and Ciampa, and as the bout moved towards its climax both results were entirely plausible.

A Super Collider and Last Chapter ended Gargano and Ciampa's dreams however, and we have new NXT Tag Team Championships. With the Authors in charge of the titles NXT now has another chance at booking a dominant heel team as champions. The timing of Shane Thorne's injury could not be worse, but what price an eight month Authors reign to be ended by TM-61?

The intensity of the end of the tag match also put forward an interesting question; would tag team wrestling in WWE benefit from matches being held under tornado tag rules?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
