7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2000

3. The Rock Won Clean...Or Did He?

The absence of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was a big deal. He was the focus of the three previous Rumble matches, so somebody had to step up. The Rock showed that he was ready to be the man by dominating much of the match. He should have been booked stronger by lasting the longest or eliminating more guys, but he was still impressive as the 24th entrant that lasted just under 15 minutes. His main adversary in the match was the Big Show, who was a heel at this point in his career. He turned so much that it was hard to keep track of all the times he turned even in his first year in the company. People probably didn't think Show had much of a chance of winning, but he was built up strongly going into it. The Rock's victory was a controversial one. Show put Rock on his shoulders, he wanted to toss Rock over the top to the floor, but when he ran to the ropes, Rock held onto the top rope and he was able to slip back into the ring while Show went tumbling out. The reason it was controversial is because Rock's feet actually touched the floor because he's a big guy so it was tough for him to keep his feet off the ground. When the match was over, Show went back into the ring and tossed The Rock over the top to the floor. The whole thing was pretty confusing and led to a fatal four way match with Rock, Show, Triple H and Foley at WrestleMania 2000. This was the only Rumble match that The Rock won. If he didn't leave to go have a movie career he probably would have won another one or two Rumble matches in his career.
