7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2000

1. It Was The Best Royal Rumble PPV Ever

This is the best Royal Rumble PPV ever and when I was asked to write a ranking of the 20 best WWE PPVs ever, I ranked it at #5. It's a phenomenal show that had everything that fans want to see in a three hour broadcast. The Triple H/Cactus Jack match is one of the best matches in WWE history. It was a wild, vicious and dramatic 27 minute battle full of blood. Both guys put their bodies on the line. There wasn't a cheap finish. It was clean and it put over the younger wrestler (Triple H) while the veteran (Jack) showed that he was still one of the best performers in the business. It's still one of the best matches in the careers of both guys. It was an entertaining Royal Rumble match. While there are certainly better Rumble matches, including the one that followed a year later, they had a lot of entertaining moments throughout the match and the crowd was into everything they were doing. The Rock was the right guy to get the win even though it was a controversial finish. A tag team Tables Match was such a fresh idea and the Hardys didn't disappoint in their match with the Dudleys. We really had no idea what they might do in that setting, yet they managed to have an entertaining match like usual. Hardy's balcony dive on D'Von through the table is still one of the most memorable spots in WWE MSG history. The debut of Tazz was handled well. He was built up like a big deal, he took it to Angle immediately and he made him tap out in quick fashion. That's how you bring in somebody new to make them look like a threat. There were other parts of the show like the divas in bikinis and the Outlaws/Acolytes tag match that were pretty forgettable, but everything else worked. The 2000 Royal Rumble is a great show if you want to re-live what made that year the best in the history of WWE. Even without Steve Austin around, the roster was good enough to put on a memorable show. Check it out if you never have or if you need a refresher on what made it so special.
