7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2003
7. A Weak Undercard Hurt The First Half Of The Show
A hot start to the show is important. This show really didn't have great matches until the second half of the show. Brock Lesnar beat Big Show in the opener. That was just a way to get Lesnar his win back after losing the WWE Title to Big Show at Survivor Series when Paul Heyman turned on Lesnar. It was that match where Lesnar turned face. Lesnar beat Show clean with an impressive F5. The Dudley Boys were back in the babyface role as a team after splitting up due to the brand extension, which wasn't good for either guy. They won the tag titles from William Regal and Lance Storm when D-Von used the brass knucks that Regal tried to use. Good babyface win for them although just an average match. Dawn Marie also had a match with Torrie Wilson, which was pretty bad because neither woman was that great in the ring. They also had a stupid storyline centered around Torrie's dad Al, who Dawn married and died because of the sex he was having with Dawn. Yes that was a storyline. At least it produced memorable segments like the two women kissing in a hotel room. Torrie got the win in the match to put an end to the feud. There was also a video package for Nathan Jones on the show, which is laughable now because he turned out to be a huge bust for WWE. His career didn't last very long.
