7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2006

7. The Divas Actually Had A Good Storyline!

This was the best year for diva storylines in WWE just because there was actually long term planning, not to mention awesome performances by a lot of their women. Mickie James just started in WWE a couple of months before this. She was brought in as an overly aggressive and crazy fan of Trish Stratus. They had to build her up as a top contender for Trish's Women's Title, so Mickie was put in this match with Diva Search winner Ashley Massaro. Trish was out there as the referee of the match looking really hot like usual. It wasn't a good match. Blame Ashley. She was never that good in the ring, but WWE felt the need to put her out there because she won the Diva Search. It was a mistake to give them nearly eight minutes because she looked lost out there. Mickie ended up getting the clean pin. This was still in the early part of the storyline. Mickie ended up turning into a crazy heel and it added more fuel to the fire. It's worth watching again just because it's a reminder that WWE can actually tell good stories involving the women although it rarely happens anymore.
