7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2007

4. Umaga Was The Perfect Kind Of Opponent For John Cena

Some guys just have great chemistry in the ring and that's what Cena had with Umaga. Most people didn€™t think Umaga was going to leave the match with the WWE Title, but WWE did a terrific job of making him look like a legitimate title contender. Cena didn't bleed a lot in his matches, but he sure bled a lot in this one. He also worked the match with taped ribs. He spent much of the match doing a good job of selling his injuries. By doing that, it made Umaga look like a vicious heel that was relentless in terms of punishing Cena. What was very noticeable about the match is that the crowd was really invested in it. This match won over the crowd. The ones that loved Cena were fired up and the ones that hated him thought that maybe this monster Umaga could put an end to Cena's WWE Title reign. It turned into a violent match. A year later, WWE went PG so they had brawls that were a lot safer. There was a huge reaction when Umaga did a dive that sent him crashing through the announce tables (he ran across all three announce tables) because Cena moved. The finish was creative when Cena grabbed the broken ring rope and he choked Umaga with the rope. It was a very memorable ending to a crazy match. Considering how boring the other two title matches were it was really nice to see a very good match here. It also protected Umaga by not having him get pinned. Both guys worked their asses off, they kept the pace up the entire time and the match was never boring. Everything they did made sense too, which is all you can ever really ask for. Watching this match made me miss Umaga. He was a very underrated performer. Rest in peace.
