7 Times Hulk Hogan Was An Awful Person In The Royal Rumble

3. Betraying Poor Tugboat In 1991

For all of five minutes in 1991, Hulk Hogan and Tugboat were best friends in the world. It has since been claimed that Hogan vs. Tugboat was on the table for WrestleMania VII, although the Sgt. Slaughter title win and Hogan’s immense jingoism surely puts that rumour to bed. Even so, Hogan and Tugger were BFFs by the time the ’91 Rumble came around.

Despite their bromance, Hulk Hogan still decided that it was up to him to end Tugboat’s Royal Rumble. Was Fred Ottman a threat to Hogan in the match? Absolutely not. In fact, Hogan would have been well advised to keep Tugger in there, giving him a clear ally in the chaotic match. On a number of occasions, Tugboat helped Hulk out of precarious predicaments.

But no, Hogan’s ego got in the way and he threw the big man out without a care in the world. Tugboat had been Hogan’s biggest supporter in the months prior, supporting The Hulkster after he was brutally attacked by that damn Earthquake and more. What did ol’ Toot-toot get for this? Betrayal, that’s what.

It’s no wonder Tugboat turned heel six months later, siding with ‘Quake and becoming Typhoon in the process.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
