7 Times Hulk Hogan Was An Awful Person In The Royal Rumble
4. Causing The Elimination Of The Ultimate Warrior In 1990
Another year, another ‘inadvertent’ elimination of a major babyface rival. If you think John Cena was good at keeping pretenders to his throne at an arm’s length, just go back and watch Hogan trying to fend off the fresher stars coming within sniffing distance of his crown. In 1990, Hulk was still number one, but The Ultimate Warrior was breathing down his neck.
In the year's Royal Rumble, the two shared a stand off that launched a thousand love affairs with professional wrestling. It was a truly iconic moment, as two heroic superstars went toe-to-toe for the very first time. It ended with a double clothesline, allowing the bad guys to come down and separate the two once more.
Hogan was clearly rattled by this confrontation, so he set about repeating his antics from a year before. Warrior had actually saved Hogan from elimination in the match moments earlier, a favour the Hulkster repaid almost immediately by causing Warrior to be eliminated.
Like Savage the year before, Warrior immediately ran back into the ring, but instead of confronting Hogan he decided to hit The Barbarian and Rick Rude instead. Jesse Venture summed it up best by referring to him as ‘an idiot’.
‘An idiot’ definitely wasn’t an insult that could be levied in the direction of Hulk Hogan. The dastardly Hulkster was at it once again.
