The WWE narrative of Rey Mysterio is that, although undersized compared to many of his rivals, his heart and impressive in-ring abilities helped him overcome the odds and become champion.
However, in 2009, it was revealed ‘The Master of the 619’ had a little help along the way.
During the height of the Signature Pharmacy Scandal in 2007, Sports Illustrated alleged that no less than 20 WWE superstars were involved, one of which was Mysterio. But it was two years later that he actually failed to comply with the company's Wellness Policy directly. He claimed he had a prescription for the drug but failed to provide it within the allotted timeframe, as he was on vacation. Consequentially, he was suspended in September after dropping the Intercontinental title.
In 2012, Mysterio received his second violation, although it had little effect on his run. He was by that time long off-screen and far removed from a significant push.
