7 Times John Cena Was A Terrible Human

6. Melina And Slut Chants

Actually, maybe I should have titled this something about John Cena being a misogynist. It was 2006 and John Cena was WWE Champion. This was just before WWE made the change to being completely PG so the language in the linked video is, how do you say, a little colourful? Melina was managing Johnny Nitro at the time, and Kevin Federline (he of Britney Spears fame) was about to take on our dear valiant hero John Cena in a match on New Years Day. For the record, Kevin Federline won that match, so don't Cena doesn't ever put anyone over.

Of course, Cena doesn't exactly have a great record of treating the WWE Divas with the greatest respect, so of course he stoops to the lowest rung on the ladder and runs Melina down, referring to her (by proxy) as a slut, which of course leads to the crowd starting a 'slut' chant. Now, I'm not about to say that John Cena the character is entirely in control of what the crowd chants at this point, but using the phrase in the first place is the move of an insecure man, a terrible human.

Sexual shaming is inherently sexist. I could write an entire collection of works on the hypocrisy of our attitudes towards promiscuity. A man that is the face of an anti-bullying campaign is better than these remarks, surely?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
