7 Times WWE Ruined Rusev

1. The Randy Orton SummerSlam Squash

Post-Cena/US triumphalism, Rusev had some hope. WWE's next plan for him was a match against Randy Orton at SummerSlam. There was no way this one could fail; Orton, who had spent the majority of the year either trading silliness with Bray Wyatt or attempting to make Jinder Mahal a worthy WWE Champion, needed a killer pay-per-view match of his own.

This seemed like just the ticket.

All hope faded when Randy, recovering from a pre-match attack, blasted Rusev with one RKO and pinned him in a mere 10 seconds at SummerSlam. It was another mortal blow for Rusev on WWE's second-biggest show of the year, and it was the third year running he'd been disappointed at SummerSlam.

Thank God Rusev had the foresight to do something different and comedically claim that every day was "Rusev Day" in months after that. Without injecting his own performances with likeable flashes of personality, who knows where he might be by now.

Probably losing to Curt Hawkins.
