Cena vs Rock Wrestlemania 29

Everybody loves this one. For dumping on that is. 2011 marked the beginning of CM Punk’s ascendency as the voice of the voiceless, the master of the pipebomb, and this is how it is done Seth Rollins, best in the world.

Later in the year, he would begin the iconic 434 day WWE title run which had the WWE universe buzzing as to who would be the one to finally end it. Perhaps it would be used to put over the next big thing? In any case, at the very least it meant Punk would get his WrestleMania moment in the main event, right? Wrong. Because, it was big muscly, Hollywood hunky, Dwayne, the Rock, Johnson.

Build into the angle so that Cena could avenge his loss in the previous year’s 'Mania main event, Punk dropped the championship to The Rock and with it, perhaps sealed his inevitable exit that came early next year. For both the Straight Edge Saviour and his legions of fans, it was another classic case of WWE stubbornly sticking to who they believe should be the biggest stars, as opposed to listening to their audience.
