7 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (February 14 - Results & Review)
Ups...
7. The Only Women's Match (Again) Is Solid Enough
Willow Nightingale Vs. Skye Blue was solid.
Enough.
The basic thrust of the match saw Blue carve out strategic opportunities to neutralise Willow's size advantage to gain momentum - in one example, by grabbing her from the top turnbuckle and smashing her with a powerbomb - to come agonisingly close to victory. This story beat, sadly, was acted with liberal NXT face. The fans were somewhat into it, but were louder elsewhere on the night.
It's Wednesday, you know what that means...
Skye came so close in fact that Stokely Hathaway embraced the idea of helping Willow in order to gain the trust of Kris Statlander: after Blue hit Code Blue on Willow, another move that wasn't 100% convincing, Stokely dashed from the commentary table to the apron and distracted the referee, allowing Willow to kick-out of the visual win and win herself with the Doctor Bomb.
The idea of Stokely, Willow and Stat earnestly becoming friends is the sort of charming and wholesome development at which AEW excels.
