In the main event post-match (review follows shortly), Tony Schiavone asked Sting who he wanted to face in his retirement bout. The question was seemingly answered for him by the returning Young Bucks who, in a silent stare-down that probably went a bit long, declared their intentions.
If 2021 acts as evidence, and hopefully it does, the rule is: the more offensive the facial hair, the better the Bucks are as obnoxious heels. And they looked, thank Christ, like complete a**holes last night.
This is a great, great idea, incidentally. This incarnation of Sting is a party match specialist, and the Bucks are the best of all-time at that genre. Sting Vs. the Young Bucks in 2024 is as perfect a match as Sting Vs. Ric Flair was in 1988, as perfect as Sting Vs. Vader was in 1992.
The Young Bucks created movement for the best AEW Sting match at Forbidden Door 2022, and barely needed any of the usual shortcuts to get there. Imagine a match between them with shortcuts and a real emotional undercurrent. There is nobody better for his last one.
Nobody.
