7 Ups & 2 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (21 Oct)

3. Savannah Breaks Out

Though she ultimately lost the match, Savannah Evans' bout with Mickie James very much felt like a coming-out party for the former. She worked excellently against a legend of the business.

What enhanced the quality of this is that, early on, Savannah dominated Mickie with such ease, putting over the fact that Mickie isn't the performer she once was. This was only her twelfth televised encounter since the start of 2019, so it's a severe downgrade from what she used to do; it made perfect sense for Evans to knock her off her feet as easy as she did.

That's not to say Mickie wasn't enjoyable while in control, either. The former Knockouts Champion executed many of her finest hits, including a near-perfect top-rope Lou Thesz press, and ultimately winning with a jumping DDT. She looked great against the less-experienced Evans, providing a taste of what to expect vs. Deonna Purrazzo.

A minor Up, too, for Matthew Rehwoldt laying out Mickie James post-match, thus not technically breaking the no-touch clause. IMPACT isn't afraid to go a step ahead with intergender spots, which adds to stories more than the match itself sometimes.
