7 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Jul 21)
1. Changes Keep Coming
After 383 days of being at the top of Impact Wrestling's doubles division, Ethan Page and Josh Alexander have been dethroned at the hands of The Motor City Machine Guns in a match of the year candidate main event.
In just their second match together since 2018, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley were on top of the game against The North, using all of the same offence that led them to their original run with the titles ten years ago. The size disadvantage didn't do anything to hamper Sabin and Shelley's chances at the titles, with the Detroit natives instead using to their advantage to fly all over the ring, and utilise some nasty kicks to the heads of both opponents.
'All Ego' and 'The Walking Weapon' were, as they always have been throughout their reign, on top form for the duration of the match. It takes a special kind of team to reign for just over a year as the World Tag Team Champions of one of the major wrestling companies in the world right now. Not only that, but they also just managed to become the longest-reigning champions in Impact history period, surpassing Taya Valkyrie's Knockouts Championship run that ended earlier this year. The way they lost also did nothing at all to hurt them, with Sabin using a small package counter on Page. A fluke rollup does nothing to push The North down the card.
It'll certainly be interesting to see where both teams go from here. For the new champs, there's no shortage of teams for them to face - The World's Most Dangerous Tag Team, The Deaners, The Rascalz in a Slammiversary rematch, and, of course, The Good Brothers. As for Page and Alexander, all props have to go to them for what they achieved as champions. They may no longer have the physical championship titles, but they'll forever be in the Impact history books for exceptional reasons.
