7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 29)
1. Six-Man Tag Steals The Show
The New Day vs. Sheamus, Cesaro, and The Miz was booked last week, when 'The A-Lister' butted heads with the popular trio, before The Bar interfered in his singles match with Big E. Fortunately, it was a great deal better than the odd pancake-throwing mini-segment that preceded it.
Although TV's restrictions mean such bouts often sit somewhere between "decent" and "pretty good," this was excellent. All six performers worked their tails off. The opening stages were strong, with both sides delivering mechanically sound work, and the heels successfully isolating Kofi Kingston for considerable periods. Things went up a notch when Xavier Woods came in for the hot tag. From there, the bout went berserk, with the crowd fired-up by every near-fall and momentum shift, largely down to the frantic pace generated by both sides.
The New Day's teamwork proved decisive. Though Woods was cleaned out, Kofi neutralised The Bar with a dive, and this allowed E to nail Miz with the Big Ending and score the pinfall.
Still no word on which New Day member will represent the team at Money In The Bank, but this was a great warm-up match.
