7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT UK (Oct 24)

3. A Fitting Main Event

Tyler Bate Wolfgang

Minor booking concerns aside, Tyler Bate vs. Wolfgang was a strong main event that didn't quite meet the standards of last week's clash between Pete Dunne and Noam Dar, but still delivered the quality we'd expect from a wrestler of Tyler's calibre in such a slot.

NXT UK's 'Big Strong Boi' looked as great as ever. His character connects, and he knows exactly how to work it in order to draw a response, guaranteeing a hot atmosphere from an already hot building. We can't take anything away from his opponent either: Wolfgang is a fine wrestler, and one of the brand's most underrated. He proved it last night, once again showcasing surprising levels of athleticism as him and Bate went to war, and his more brutish moments prevented him as a great foil for his affable opponent.

Bate eventually planted Wolfgang with the Tyler Driver '97, meaning NXT UK's babyfaces went 4-0 on the night. This was the right choice. His opponent is best placed as an upper-midcard gatekeeper heel, but Bate is a star, and someone WWE will rightly push as one of the brand's headliners.
