7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Aug 14)

3. Becky & Charlotte Triumph Over Absolution

Another slab of very okay SmackDown content, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch vs. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville was a routine women's tag bout elevated by two things:-

1. The ever-improving Sonya Deville, whose prospects look more and more exciting every time she wrestles, with last night's exchanges with Charlotte particularly satisfying. She has grown exponentially as a performer since joining the main roster.

2. Becky Lynch's character work. 'The Lass Kicker' was exceptional here, particularly during the closing stretches. She outright refused to tag Charlotte in, instead opting to face the former Absolution women alone, portraying her, once again, as the division's foremost fiery underdog. Lynch effectively scored the victory all by herself, and that's exactly the kind of rub she needs heading into SummerSlam.

The bout's layout presented Becky as the woman to beat. It'd be great to see her come away with the victory on Sunday, particularly given the way she has been undermined over the past 18 months. Let's hope WWE have something long-term planned for her and Charlotte, too. Sounds like a great Evolution feud to this writer...
