7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Aug 14)

2. Sanity Shine Despite Losing... Again

Though a clear step or two beneath last week's fantastic tag main event, Sanity vs. The New Day was another strong TV bout that showcased the best of both teams, once again making a complete mockery of the company's wide-scale diminishment of their tag divisions earlier in the year.

The problem is still prevalent on Raw, but SmackDown's group look great at the moment, and it's largely down to matches like this. Let's hope the trend continues post-SummerSlam.

This trios clash was bags of fun. All six wrestlers were given the chance to shine, and they worked a fast, fluid bout en route to a hot closing stretch, concluding with the Midnight Hour on Killian Dain. A minor surprise, as 'The Beast Of Belfast' is the one Sanity member you'd expect WWE to protect, though his newly singlet-clad torso suggests that maybe Vince McMahon isn't as high on the big man as many assumed.

A supplemental Down for Sanity's worsening win/loss record, as the trio haven't had much luck between SmackDown's ropes. The gimmick doesn't always hit the right marks, but they're a solid little unit, and it'd be a shame to see them typecast as glorified jobbers. Still, The New Day couldn't exactly eat a loss ahead of their title challenge.
