7 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE Raw (1 April - Results & Review)

2. Uncle Rock Drops Some Gospel

Roman Reigns might be the Bloodline member with a shirt that reads, “Greatness on a Different Level,” but it’s The Rock who is the living embodiment of that creed right now. He’s simply operating on a different plane of existence than the rest of the world.

Rock opened Raw by recapping his epic, violent beatdown of Cody Rhodes last week, noting that the only thing missing was Mama Rhodes’ tears on his weight belt. The Final Boss picked on the “Cody Crybabies,” and then got serious when he noted that there were little kids legit upset about the assault. That’s when “Uncle Rock” had to “drop some gospel” on everyone about people talking sh** when they shouldn’t be and needing to be beaten down.

And then, in a perfect, can’t script it any better moment, the heel Hollywood Rock took full credit for wrestling being cool again, pointing to rising ratings, sold-out arenas and the largest domestic gate in Raw history. Using real-life examples of WWE being on fire and taking credit for it all just made Rock even more of a prick.

It’s just really sad to realize that we might get one or two appearances over the next week or so, and then Rock will fade to the background again, because this renaissance has been truly fun to watch.
