7 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Sept 25)
3. Paul Heyman = Background Noise
Paul Heyman playing his part like a champ is perhaps no surprise to anyone who has watched even a few minutes of his career. However, the manner in which Paul E is largely laying out and letting Roman Reigns and Jey Uso do most of the talking in this feud deserves attention.
That's impressive restraint from somebody who could sell a match better than 99.9% of wrestlers who have laced up a pair of boots. Heyman must know he could add more fuel to the fire if he was cutting lengthy rants, but he also realises when the time is right to shut his mouth and stalk around in the background taking in every word.
The focus is on the guys working the match on Sunday. Good.
WWE has also made it crystal clear that Reigns is the one in charge of this partnership, and that Heyman is cool with that. He has his role to play, and doesn't need to stand mid-ring weaving constant poetic promos like he did for Brock Lesnar.
