7 Ups & 3 Downs For AEW Collision (16 September)

1. Nobody Gave A Damn

AEW Collision Vincent Jeff Hardy
AEW

The Hardy Boyz are clearly one of the greatest tag teams in the history of the business, but it can be tough to watch them these days. Matt and Jeff have put their bodies on the line so many times throughout their legendary careers, and that really does show in their work nowadays. That's not a dig, that's not a knock, it's just merely the results of the wear, tear, and wars the brothers have put themselves through.

It's tough for the Hardys to put on truly great matches here in 2023, and with the Righteous they had opponents that the fans in attendance at State College simply didn't give a damn about. And that's not the fault of those fans, nor necessarily the Righteous.

In the Righteous, we've got a tandem who have only made a couple of extremely fleeting appearances on AEW programming. Yet, here they are, picking up a relatively clean win over an iconic team in just seven minutes as a way to involve Vincent and Dutch in the ROH Tag Team Titles picture.

Post-match, we got Vincent warbling about being prisoners to false idols, devils on shoulders, false love, fake friendships, yada, yada, yada. It was all just a little 'amateur theatre', and the Bryce Jordan Center reacted to absolutely none of this.

Nigel McGuinness did his very best to try and make this feel like a genuinely big deal on commentary, but it's hard to believe Nigel's words when this match and promo played out to crickets.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
