7 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (12 Oct)

2. Walking The Walk Yet Again

Hikaru Shida Toni Storm
AEW

The hunt for qualifier-free praise goes on as relates to the women's division in AEW. Between this match and the stolen TBS Title build between Nyla Rose and Jade Cargill, it still feels as though the company would rather partition a specific section of the show for females rather than just presenting a version of parity.

In spite of that - it's still a big "that", this contest was back in the traditional death spot - Toni Storm and Hikaru Shida's victory over Dr Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter was another hard-hitting affair with significant directions coming out for winners and losers alike.

Hayter's bubbling popularity was acutely preserved by virtue of the clean win the babyfaces achieved, she looked hard as nails running the show for the heels before the closing stretch, and Shida and Baker's old chemistry made a welcome return for a finish that put the former back in contention for a shot at Storm in the near future.

And just on Storm - she's rather selflessly stood back for much of this to happen, and more power to her confidence and maturity in the role as a result. The dreaded "interim" tag might be hanging around, but she's comfortably one of the best to ever hold any version of that top title and has become the cornerstone of what feels way more like a rebuild than the won we were told about in that regrettable Saraya segment a fortnight ago.
