7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (24 Feb - Results & Review)
1. WrestleMania Focus Still Unclear
When it comes to booking WrestleMania matches, there are different schools of thought. Some would prefer simple, linear, and well told storylines leading high-stakes matches with fans deeply invested in the outcome. Others enjoy more complex, shrouded tales that remain unpredictable, inviting speculation right up until the end, as they keep fans guessing.
There’s room for both of these types on a WrestleMania card, but it feels like this year’s event is more in flux than recent years, with angles remaining up in the air. And it’s not just the Undisputed WWE Championship picture with The Rock returning. The Women’s World Championship is unclear whether it will be a singles match or a triple threat given Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley are fighting over the title next week.
The secondary and tag titles have a couple of different paths they could go, with some of them potentially being singles bouts, and others could wind up being four-way clashes. Roman Reigns’ role at Mania remains unclear. Logan Paul feels like the booby prize for whoever doesn’t win the Elimination Chamber to challenge Cody Rhodes between John Cena and CM Punk. Seth Rollins’ role is also unclear.
One of the hottest feuds seemingly out there – Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn – looks like it could be blown off at Elimination Chamber, though there are always ways to preserve it for another month.
There still are seven weeks until WrestleMania 41, so this isn’t some indictment of the entire build, but the fact that a reasonable person can see almost countless combinations for some potential matches is more of a reflection of how unsettled things are at this stage.
Perhaps after Elimination Chamber, the pieces will quickly start falling into place, rendering this criticism moot. But as of right now, this feels a bit all over the place.
