7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (24 Feb - Results & Review)

4. Sami Doesn’t Recognize Himself

There’s a terrible cliché of wrestlers looking at their hands in disbelief at what they’ve just done, seemingly dismayed at becoming that which they most despise after committing a heinous act.

However, Sami Zayn managed to convey that exact sentiment during a pre-taped sit-down interview that was pitch-perfect. On the heels of Kevin Owens’ promo that he cut outside Sami’s house last week that aired on SmackDown on Friday, Zayn admitted that he too went to KO’s house last week. Sami said Owens’ mother was visiting and he ended up talking to her for a while before going back home, feeling ashamed of himself and remarking how he didn’t recognize himself.

Zayn observed that despite he and Owens having feuded several times through the years, they never dragged their families into the fray, and here both of them were going to each other’s house, seeming to lose control as things continue to devolve. From there, Sami translated that loss of control to how both men were going to behave during their unsanctioned match at Elimination Chamber.

Without yelling, bulging his eyes out or acting wild, Sami conveyed that he and KO both are careening toward an ugly collision on Saturday. What’s better is that Jackie Redmond pulled it out of Zayn with her question rather than it just being a straight promo, making it something he wasn’t necessarily going to admit until he was called on it. Fantastic stuff.
