5. Gable To The Rescue

Sami Zayn Bronson Reed

Last week, this column pointed out the possibility that Chad Gable was being set up to serve as Sami Zayn’s coach heading into WrestleMania, the one man who could properly focus and fire up Zayn before he challenges Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.

Monday night, it became perfectly clear that Gable is going to take on that role. After warning Sami to not give in to Gunther’s psychological games, Gable watched as Zayn did just the opposite, allowing the Ring General to distract him in his match against Bronson Reed. The Aussie got the surprise win, further shaking Sami’s confidence.

Backstage, Gable listened as Sami lamented his situation, frustrated by letting Gunther get to him in a match he wasn’t involved in. That’s when Gable stepped in and told Sami that he needs a different approach, and if he’s willing to commit to that, then they two of them can talk.

What makes this great is that it sells Gunther even harder. He’s such as great champion that it will take two world-class athletes to bring him down (potentially), one to wrestle the match and another to help with the mental game. And it shows babyfaces being good babyfaces. If Sami wins, you could easily see him giving an early title match to Gable.

Or hey, maybe Gable turns heel on Zayn afterward, thinking Sami is an easier target than Gunther. There are a few directions this could go.
