7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (3 Mar - Results & Review)

3. The Quality Match You Would Expect

Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley are more than capable of delivering in the ring every time they step between the ropes, regardless of opponent, so when they face off against each other, it’s safe to assume that what will follow will be a high-quality match.

The two women tangled on Monday night for Ripley’s Women’s World Championship, and they owned the main event slot. The story was built on how they knew each other quite well, with Iyo winning every non-tag encounter. Sky busted out signature moves from all three of her Damage CTRL stablemates while trying to slow Rhea down, while Ripley became more and more irate at not being able to put Iyo down, leading her to become increasingly aggressive as the match wore on.

Each woman countered the other’s killshot, with Iyo turning a Riptide into a DDT and Rhea heading off a moonsault with an avalanche German suplex. But it was Sky turning an avalanche Riptide into a hurricanrana that ultimately turned the tide for good.

The finish, with Bianca Belair becoming involved, was contrived and dragged the match down a bit, but it’s also par for the course with WWE these days – when a third wrestler is seated a ringside, you can almost set your watch to some shenanigans taking place. Really good match, disappointing level of overcomplicating things at the conclusion.
