2. ‘New Day Sucks’

What has it been, nine years since fans lustily booed the New Day? There was genuine intrigue into whether fans would boo them again, even after last week. Fans have been apathetic at times, but Monday night, fans let Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have it.

Woods commandeered Stu’s camera and walked to ringside so he and Kingston could explain their actions last week, when they booted Big E from the group and effectively turned heel for the first time in eons. However, they were barely able to get a word in, as fans rained down with boos and chants of “New Day sucks” and “We want Big E!”

Kofi and Xavier tried to point out that they could have attacked E with a steel chair or a sledgehammer, but the crowd kept drowning them out until they left in disgust.

It’s not clear yet whether this heel act will have long-term legs, but getting jeered like this in week two is a good sign. Hopefully, New Day are able to keep it up and really make something of it. No one wants them to have burned a decade of goodwill with fans for a flash-in-the-pan heel run. This was a good start, and it was heartening to see Kofi and Xavier not try to do too much with it beyond subtly encouraging fans to boo louder as they got frustrated.
