7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (9 Sept - Results & Review)
Ups…
7. A Nice Hometown Moment
WWE under Vince McMahon conditioned fans to never expect a truly good, positive moment involving its hometown heroes. If a wrestler was billed from the town where a show emanated, fans grew to expect they’d at best lose or at worst be humiliated.
Since Triple H took the reins, WWE has played into these hometown connections more than ever before, giving fans reason to get excited about seeing their local heroes in action. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn captured the Women’s Tag Team Championships at Clash at the Castle in their home country of Scotland earlier this summer, for example. Gunther defended his World Heavyweight Championship in Germany (where he now resides) at Bash in Berlin.
With Raw stationed in Calgary, Alberta, Canada Monday night, there was only one person who could be the mystery partner for Zelina Vega and Lyra Valkyria against Pure Fusion Collective: Natalya. Thankfully, WWE didn’t book Nattie to fall victim to a distraction rollup or something silly like that. Instead, Natalya slapped on a Sharpshooter and got the submission victory, giving herself, the fans, and Vega and Valkyria a happy moment by silencing PFC for at least one week.
