7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (6 Dec - Results & Review)

2. Retreading Old Ground

Everyone gets what WWE were going for with Michael Cole interviewing Kevin Owens in his car, and KO trolling Cole by winding up the window was funny, but the segment wasn’t very interesting overall. Neither man said anything new. The whole thing was just Owens ranting about how everyone’s wrong as Cole tried to get a word in. We've heard all of this before in multiple forms and fashions.

Brownie points go to the writers for trying to put a fresh spin on the presentation, but yeah - not sure why they bothered airing this unless Kev was going to attack MC or something. Being totally honest, this guy is not a fan of how WWE dialled back on some of the viciousness after that Randy Orton piledriver on the 8 November episode, but they admittedly made up for that come the end of the night. Fair's fair, and all that.

Back to the promo with Cole.

It was middle of the road. If WWE were going to book something like this, then they needed Owens to drop some sort of bombshell about his match with Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night's Main Event. Sorry, but KO arguing with a play by play announcer like some surly teenager who was about to get grounded didn't cut it.

Thank God this week's SmackDown closed out the way it did. Without that moment, Kevin's night would've been wasted. It's hard to do every time, but it's important that WWE at least tries to make these unique sit down chats mean something. They should always offer something tangible that makes them memorable.

In other words, KO should've gone full blown Kane and set Michael on fire. Only kidding.
