7 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dark (Sep 15)

1. Brandon Cutler vs. Peter Avalon

Brandon Cutler Peter Avalon
AEW

Brandon Cutler and Peter Avalon entered this bout with records of 0-25 and 0-26 respectively. AEW has told the story of them both desperately seeking their first victory well, whether they've been together or apart, and the storytelling helped bring a level of importance to a show that doesn't usually prioritise such things.

Though bolstered by the narrative, Avalon and Cutler delivered a genuinely great little main event. Avalon played the chickensh*t heel role perfectly, setting traps for Cutler, the fiery babyface, to walk into. This was how he scored the majority of his advantages though Brandon was hard to stifle, working hard in the biggest match of his AEW run to date. Both men get thumbs up for effort and execution: they killed it.

And there wasn't a winner! Cutler and Avalon were too busy brawling with each other on the outside, then yanking one another away from the apron, to avoid the double countout. The quest for the first victory continues.

This was the first double countout in AEW history, and justified by the context. These guys are booked as losers. They literally cannot win, so of course they fought to a non-finish. It looks like they'll have to settle this beef under looser rules...
