7 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Mar 24)
6. The Actual Pinnacle Of Modern Wrestling Heels
The Pinnacle are already a great act thanks to their awesome formation angle, last week's quotable promo, and now this: a strong one-two match/promo combination to fortify their position on the mountaintop.
Their six-man with the Varsity Blonds and Dante Martin was textbook TV fodder. Elevated by a tremendous performance from Martin, who was at his explosive best while fighting against the smothering heel tide, this told the old tale of overmatched babyfaces storming into battle with heart, fire, and soul, only to be snuffed out by the heels' brutal, grinding offense. Still, as spectacular as Dante was here, The Pinnacle had the best spot, as FTR fluidly popped Martin onto Shawn Spears' shoulders for the match-ending C4.
A fired-up Dax Harwood targeted Santana and Ortiz in the post-match promo, ripping the Inner Circle for treating wrestling like a comedy show. Cash Wheeler claimed he'd die for his new brothers. MJF, meanwhile, went hard on Chris Jericho, saying that where he used to break down the walls, the only thing he breaks now are the chairs he sits on, adding that the reason The Inner Circle weren't there to respond was because they are terrified.
This is the kind of beautiful simplicity that AEW gets right every week, particularly when these specific performers are involved. The Pinnacle is already setting up to be a money act and amongst the most traditionally satisfying on the roster.
