7 Ups & 4 Downs From This Week's Impact Wrestling (Aug 2)

3. X Division Shocker

Whenever Impact wants to kick off a show, be it a weekly episode or a pay-per-view, it's typical of them to place their trust in the stars of the X division to get it started with a bang. That was the case this week as a #1 contenders match began proceedings, featuring Aiden Prince, Rohit Raju, Cody Deaner, Petey Williams, Wentz, and the UK's Chuck Mambo.

To the shock of absolutely no-one, it was a great, fast-paced match between six men who epitomise what the X division is all about, that being incredible in-ring competition. Everyone got in their fair share of offence, even newcomer Mambo. In fact, 'The Gnarliest Wrestler In The World' was involved in the pinfall here, taking a 450 splash and being pinned by winner Aiden Prince.

This result really came out of nowhere. Considering it was a #1 contender's match, there can't have been that many people who saw Aiden winning. He's rarely been featured even when he is on our screens, and it's not usually in a prominent role. It was a huge shock, but a good one. At least Impact are building up a new talent rather than placing the win on one of their established names.
